Transforming Education’s revised SEL Integration Approach outlines five components critical to integrated social, emotional, and academic learning and helps educators answer the question, “How can we take an intentional approach, aligned with best practices in pedagogy, to helping students develop their social-emotional skills and mindsets?”

The two-page Quick Reference Guide provides a conceptual understanding of SEL Integration. This guide will be made more actionable by a series of accompanying tools and resources to be released throughout Fall 2020, including a teacher reflection tool, a leader reflection tool, a case study compilation, and a set of companion guides that dive deeper into the research and strategies related to each component of the SEL Integration Approach.

This new version of the SEL Integration Approach was revised in response to partner feedback and our own learnings from a pilot year of implementation.

The following Companion Guides go into more detail on each of the five components of SEL Integration and provide educators with research, guiding questions, practical resources, and look-fors.

“We must resist thinking in siloed terms when it comes to social-emotional learning (SEL), academics, and equity. Rather, these elements of our work as educators and partners go hand in hand.”
