TransformEd works to inform education policy by collaborating with districts, states, and intermediary organizations to synthesize research about and identify approaches that will support students’ whole child development.
We work with federal, state, and local policymakers to implement the following recommendations:
- Establish working groups, stakeholder meetings, and focused partnerships between state education agencies (SEAs) and local education agencies (LEAs) to gather input and develop plans for implementing whole child related initiatives;
- Leverage the flexibility of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) to pilot social-emotional and culture/climate measures statewide or with a group of innovative districts;
- Adopt formative assessments as a tool to identify and scale promising practices for developing students’ social emotional competencies; and
- Use those formative assessments to target supports more effectively and equitably.
